 89th BIRTHDAY LUNCHEON

March 19th, 2010 would have been Tommy's 89th birthday. To mark this occasion, the Society held its traditional birthday luncheon at Ystrad Mynach College. Restaurant manager Stuart Davies and his young team provided the assembled throng with an excellent three-course lunch which was interspersed with Tommy impressions, jokes, and fond memories

The event was further marked when new Chairman, Chris Bleach made presentations of Life Membership to the two previous Chairmen and their wives. These were Angus Donaldson, and Tudor and Margaret Jones.  Angus and Tudor founded the Society seven years ago,and through their diligence and hard work have successfully completed their intial aim of constructing the statue.

The College had made a Birthday cake for the occasion and the Chairman was assisted in blowing the candles by young Jessica Jones, who later presented bouquets to Barbara Donaldson and her Nan, Margaret Jones

To finish the celebration, Society Secretary Jonathan Jones gave an update to the members of the current situation with regard to the work currently taking place in collaboration with the Caerphilly Workmen's Hall.
As next year will be the 90th anniversary of Tommy's birth, Plans are already afoot for a special event to mark the date  -  Saturday 19th March 2011

PHASE 8 OF WALK OF FAME OPENED BY COUNCILLOR LINDSAY WHITTLE

The 8th Phase of the Walk of fame was opened on 18th February, and this now brings the total pavers in place to 196. Councillor Whittle kindly opened this phase and presented certificates to the owners of the pavers, and despite the snow, a good time was had by all, especially when the gathering was entertained by Fletcher Ransberry, a young Tommy Cooper  impressionist who had travelled from the Midlands to be present. Fletcher and his family had in fact purchased a paver, an joined several other families who had come to collect their Certificates. Despite the inclement weather, the hardy throng were warmed with tea, coffee and Welsh cakes which were supplied courtesy of the CCBC Tourist unit

Discussions are currently underway with CCBC in order to see how we can facilitate further pavers in the area, as the original sites are now full. The 'Walk of Fame' has so far added in excess of £6000 towards the cost of the statue, and future profits will go towards the future Theatre Project.
